PHASE 3 – REFINING AND CHEMICAL MANUFACTURE

COBALT REFINING PHASE 3

REFINING AND CHEMICAL MANUFACTURE

More than 65% of cobalt refining and chemical manufacturing of cobalt currently takes place in China. The crude cobalt product from processing (typically impure cobalt hydroxide) is refined using hydrometallurgical and electrometallurgical methods to produce a range of pure cobalt chemicals (such as cobalt nitrate, sulfate or hydroxide) or cobalt metal. These chemicals and metals form the inputs to the component manufacturing stage, with different intermediates being appropriate for different types of end products.
