Pre-COP27 Side Event: DRC’s Role in Green, Equitable and Just Energy Transition

15.00 – 21.30 CET, 06 october 2022

The Cobalt Institute’s event explored how the vision of the DRC to create a battery supply chain will bring us closer to the goals of the Paris Agreement, taking into account a just transition of the workforce and the creation of decent work and quality jobs in accordance with nationally defined development priorities.

The discussion focused on seeking to define what a green, equitable and just energy transition for the DRC means, and looked to identify what the opportunities and stumbling blocks could be in its achievement. The event gathered pre-COP27 meeting delegates, diplomatic missions, DRC policy-makers and government leaders, businesses with a footprint in the DRC, and representatives of non-governmental organisations.

The event, moderated by the Cobalt Institute’s Head of Responsible Sourcing & Sustainability, Susannah McLaren, concluded with a cocktail reception where participants followed up on the discussions in a more informal setting.
