Pre-COP27 Side Event: DRC’s Role in Green, Equitable and Just Energy Transition

The roundtable will explore how the vision of the DRC to create a battery supply chain will bring us closer to the goals of the Paris Agreement, taking into account a just transition of the workforce and the creation of decent work and quality jobs in accordance with nationally defined development priorities. The discussion will focus on seeking to define what a green, equitable and just energy transition for the DRC means, and will look to identify what the opportunities and stumbling blocks could be in its achievement. The event will gather pre-COP27 meeting delegates, diplomatic missions, DRC policy-makers and government leaders, businesses with a footprint in the DRC, and representatives of non-governmental organisations. The key outcomes of the discussion will feed into the discussions at COP27 in Egypt (7-18 November 2022, Sharm el-Sheikh). The roundtable will be followed by a cocktail reception.
