New Head of Responsible Sourcing and Sustainability at the Cobalt Institute

Guildford, Monday 18th January, 2021

In December 2020 the Cobalt Institute was joined by Susannah McLaren who takes on new responsibilities as Head of Responsible Sourcing and Sustainability, leading the Institute’s strategies and programmes in these areas.

Susannah’s previous experience with the London Bullion Markets Association (LBMA) and Shift will stand her in good stead, having worked with the UNGPs as well as OECD Guidance on sourcing from conflict-afflicted and high-risk areas. Her experience also includes managing relationships with key stakeholders from all areas including business, institutions, governmental and non-governmental organisations.

Susannah’s appointment reflects the increasing importance of Responsible Sourcing in the cobalt industry and the recognized need for more transparency on issues affecting the cobalt value chain.

Dr Adam McCarthy, President of the Cobalt Institute, said “We look forward to working with Susannah to bringing more transparency to Cobalt sourcing and to promoting the huge efforts made by industry to ensuring that cobalt production is free of unsustainable practices including child labour”
